WE GET IT CAUSE WE GOT IT

A NONPROFIT CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO HELPING PEOPLE WITH OCD, THEIR FAMILIES & FRIENDS.

OCD SELF-HELP SUPPORT GROUP

Now over 20 years!

The group has always been free. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm downtown.

The main rule is that what is said in the room, stays in the room. Confidentiality is of utmost importance, and everyone must feel 100% comfortable that what is said is never repeated at any time. Anything you might say in group, privately, one-on-one, or by email to the facilitator Rick Silver, will never be repeated to anyone else.

The group is a safe place. You can talk when you want – or sit and listen. There is no pressure of any kind. During the group, everyone will have a chance to talk. We will all try to let anyone talking have their say without interrupting. You may ask them a question, but let them have their moment to talk.

Rules of the Group:

  • No cost
  • No expectation of attendance
  • Confidentiality inside and outside the group
  • Speak as much or as little as you want
  • Ask questions
  • Celebrate successes and progress
  • Support each other
  • Value each other's journey
  • No judging
  • Everyone gets an opportunity to share
  • Only people with OCD attend
  • No doctors attend unless as a guest speaker
  • Welcoming environment
  • Respect is mutual and assumed
  • Sharing what works for you is fine - but nobody plays 'doctor'
  • What can you expect?

  • Meet once per month - third Wednesday of each month in Downtown Toronto
  • TTC accessible
  • Runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm but can go longer
  • Usually a range of attendees from 6 to 16
  • Role of the facilitator:

  • Ensure support and personal experiences are shared
  • The facilitator is not a physician and does not discuss medications since every persons' body reacts different to any medication and what works for one may not work for another.
  • If there is a specific medication or personal question, it will be followed-up outside of the group.
  • Managing OCD isn’t the easiest thing to do – but it is most certainly possible.

    Onsite Services Platform

We recognize the importance of having an array of modalities and treatments readily available to people with OCD. Some of these modalities are currently offered at our office at Carlton and Jarvis - the same building as the Downtown OCD Support Group.
